The club above the knucklebone on this cast uncia gives it an interesting 3 line design on obverse and reverse. It weighs 19.6 grams.

Carlos III 8-Real 1772-V Potosi mint at the NYINC. The dealer's English was limited. I asked the price (it is under my finger) and if he would take a check. He said yes, but started waiving his hands when I opened my checkbook. A bilingual guy behind me said he meant the price was for cash.

coin show finds: The Kleopatra VII, 51 - 30 BC, Ptolemaic Kingdom is graded About Good, Scarce. I call it a good find.
The denarii with a high relief of Pompey the Great was struck by his son Sextus Pompey. It is a busy coin on the reverse, but most of the letters can be read or guessed.

Theft from museums and collector groups is too common. I collect coins and the big guys in that field have had problems, some leading to jail time for perps.

Wow, the ANS is moving from NYC to Toledo, Ohio. They have excellent cast bronze and scale weight collections. Shown below is a 1 As, 1.5 Uncia & 4 Scruple weight issued during Trajan's reign. @profyarrow.bsky.social @andrewahala.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2025/11/20/a...

Nice coins. At a coin show I saw a coin called a RR drachm where the quadriga pointed the wrong way. I looked online and decided it was a Brutium Punic 3/8th Shekel, 216 – 211 BC. When I pointed out the misattribution, he raised the price. The coin did not look gold in fluorescent light.

We have a positive change in my neighbor hood. Political flags were replaced with college flags. Both are still up today. I bet the orange horn guy is nursing gator bites.

Interesting post! I like Roman / Byzantine scale weights and coins. Greek or Latin numbers are used on the weights, at times both. IS was the level on the Nilometer to assure a good crop. The top number on your pic, IZ = 17, is not used often.

I do not have find or old sales information. I used books (Haeberlin, Aes Grave; Garrucci; Sydenham; Vecci and online databases like acsearch. Haeberlin lists 33 uncia examples and has 3 pictures. Garrucci has one sketch.

I saw an interesting 35 gram cast bronze 1 Uncia (1/10th As) coin last weekend. The seller said: Rostrum tridens l., pellet to r. I think the prow is pointed right with the dot to the left. @sdecasien.bsky.social do you confirm the prow is right? @profyarrow.bsky.social
