Last weekend we walked around Downtown Cary Park in Cary, NC—this structure, L'ile Folie by Marc Fornes, found all sorts of great light. #photography #northcarolina

I finished this watch service, really happy with it. I also wrote a post about the experiences with it! jnjosh.com/posts/elgin-...

Tonight on the vintage Elgin watch project I cleaned all the parts—a very slow process with my small ultrasonic. The parts look great and all the gunk is gone. Next up, installing a new mainspring. #watchmaking

Bought a replacement shock spring (tiny brass piece over the jewel) to replace the one I lost in my practice movement. Well, it didn’t fit but I got a lot of practice working with it. It’s so tricky because it’s super tiny and very springy. 2nd photo is this to scale with an SD card. #watchmaking

Tonight on my Elgin vintage watch project I inspected all the parts to make sure I didn’t need any replacements and got everything ready for cleaning.

Started my next project tonight, the vintage Elgin with the linen dial. New challenge this time is calendar works, I took careful photos at each step so hopefully I can get it back together 😬. Looks like someone tried to service this before, it’s covered in oil and grime. #watchmaking

I did it! My first restored watch is completed! It only took me a month and 3 tries! #watchmaking

Nat had an idea that our Christmas day activity should be to spend the day building a watch. My watch components arrived already, so now I just have to hide it so I don’t build it!

Third time completely tearing this down, cleaning it, and reassembling. Before I cased it I had it running nicely at around -5/+10 seconds a day... but then in the case it lost any accuracy. Ahhhh. Going to take a break on this watch and come back after I learn more. #watchmaking

Finding watches to fix/service on eBay is too easy, I’ve somehow given myself a backlog. But hey the next next project is here, this Breil! The movement is soooo tiny. Like maybe the size of a nickel.

We found some vintage clocks and now it sounds like the beginning of “Back to the Future” in my office.

I just started this watchmaking hobby and already have 3 active projects 🙃🤣

I bought a watch on eBay to restore but they couldn’t remove the case to show the movement. I got lucky, the movement looks really nice.
