Although they do appear to be flying higher than the drone and firing slightly downward. Mind you, that's not just to protect people on the ground, but more because firing upwards at 45 degrees out of a helicopter tends to make the pilot angry ;-)

Es ist halt für die meisten Menschen schwer zu erfassen wie so ein Schlachtfeld aussieht... Man stellt sich entweder die Perspektive eines einzelnen Soldaten vor oder eine Landkarte mit Pfeilen, aber diese komplexe große Umgebung kann man sich so nicht vorstellen.

Indeed, and soldiers aren't on social security so they don't qualify. Plus, under NATO rules host governments aren't allowed to hand out social security to the stationed troops
