Associate Prof. in Coastal Ecology & Biodiversity @Swansea University. Topics: Biodiversity change; Ecosystem functions & services; Trait-based ecology. Systems: Rocky shores, Salt marshes, Coastal dunes.
Looking forward to our @ciimar.bsky.social seminar next week. @rubygeorge.bsky.social and I will be flying the flag for rocky shores as a valuable model system.

Physical heterogeneity or complexity is well-known to affect biodiversity, but what about ecosystem functioning? Our study (now published) shows heterogeneity drives cascades that boost foundation species, biodiversity, and multifunctionality esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10....

Happy to be visiting sites in Galicia, N. Spain, with PhD student Ruby George and the CIIMAR team. This is the southern (warmest) region in our collaborative study on the resilience of intertidal forests along a latitudinal gradient. @aec13.bsky.social @dansmale1.bsky.social

Check out our new #OA paper on foredune recovery along 500km of SE-US coastline following Hurricane Irma. Plant diversity and key engineers showed opposing latitudinal gradients. FL dunes more dependent on plant diversity than assumed. tinyurl.com/33cxzk6b
