One of the results from Tuesday night that stuck out to me was in Luzerne County, PA. County Councilmember Tim McGinley (D) defeated incumbent County Controller Walter Griffith (R) one year after Trump won the county by 19%.

Term-limited Frederick County Councilman has filed to run for the light red HD-04. A very good recruit for Democrats in a tough seat.

From yesterday: a new candidate fundraising committee called, "Friends of Jason Ciemielewski for Sheriff" was created. Appears to be a Democrat running for Sheriff of Frederick County, against the notorious Chuck Jenkins. #MDpolitics campaignfinance.maryland.gov/Public/ShowR...

Last month, Judge Susan Crawford defeated Judge Brad Schimmel by 10% in the most expensive and highest turnout Wisconsin Supreme Court race in history. Crawford's win maintained a liberal-leaning majority on the court.

Deeply Republican Garrett County was the only county in Maryland in which Kamala Harris improved in 2024 compared to Joe Biden. Her largest raw vote gains came in the towns along Deep Creek Lake, such as McHenry and Oakland, home of several resorts including Wisp Ski Resort.

Good morning. In the primary race for Prince George's County Executive in March, Senator Alsobrooks is supporting Councilman Calvin Hawkins.

In last year's election, MD-02 had a noticeable amount of ticket splitting. Kamala Harris and now Rep Johnny Olszewski win the district by about the same, while Larry Hogan eked out a narrow win here.

I was reading about Jimmy Carter pollster Pat Caddell and came across this quote from a 1987 profile. Very prescient.

Christmas Eve Special. In typically conservative Anne Arundel District 3, containing Pasadena and Lake Shore, Erica McFarland defeated scandal-plagued conservative Chuck Yocum for Board of Education. Though registered as an indy, McFarland was supported by local Democrats.

In Maryland, House Democrats overall ran slightly ahead of Kamala Harris by percentage margin, even though Harris got more votes than they did. Only Democrats Blaine Miller (MD-01) and Sarah Elfreth (MD-03) ran behind Harris.

Maryland was one of the several states that codified abortion rights into its state constitution this cycle. The amendment was broadly popular across the state, getting over three-quarters of the vote. Besides Garrett County, it lost in a handful of rural precincts and orthodox Jewish enclaves.

Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks defeated former Gov. Larry Hogan by 11.8% in the race to suceed retiring Senator Ben Cardin. This was the closest U.S. race in Maryland since Cardin was first elected to the Senate in 2006, when he won by 10%.

Kamala Harris won Maryland by 28.5%, 4.7% less than Biden's 33.2% win in 2020. She lost a few points across the state, particularly in deep blue Montgomery and Prince George's Counties, though did do better than Biden in deep red Garrett County and a handful of well-educated suburban precincts.
