Your reading reminds me: I went to a bar with "narrative cocktails" in Leeds a few years ago & had a one inspired by Shackleton. After branding the ice cube with the compass stamp, the bartender put a drop of a red tincture on it. "Is it supposed to taste like blood?" I asked. He beamed.

The strategic, the reflexive and (especially!!) the performative are not mutually exclusive. That I reflexively recoil at racist brutality doesn't prevent me from being strategic in my opposition to racist brutality. If I DIDN'T reflexively recoil, you might rightly be worried. Worse, 1/4
