The churches in our area are doing amazing work to turn the tide: free medical and dental care, housing, and other services to fill in the huge gaps in the social services net. It requires congregations to work together with others who aren’t always on the same page theologically to close the gap.

Tim, this is good. Many of those factors were what produced the nostalgic “greatness” some want to recapture.
