OMG . This is Journalism 101.

And the looming EU Deforestation legislation (agreed but not yet implemented) might make cocoa even more scarce and pricey.

To me, the real story would be that in addition to cutting cocoa content due to scarcity, they are also adding supplementary ingredients, making packages smaller and raising prices. EU reduced required cocoa ratio amounts not that long ago, allowing candy makers to still call it chocolate.

I’m sure. But we’re left to speculate because the story doesn’t make clear why the ingredients change and smaller packages are needed when cocoa quantities have been cut.

That’s what the story says but if they’re reducing cocoa they’re saving costs, so why raise prices? It’s a hole in the story.

So they’re raising the price although including less cocoa? Strange.
