This is a personal favorite from the Gillen/McKelvie run of Young Avengers (either #3 or #4).

Not sure if it counts

Thought I'd do it myself. Same caveats.

Day 1 - First Video Game

Atari 800. Star Raiders. For such a low memory cartridge, an open world space game with three mission types that still outshines Starfield.

Demonstrably untrue.

The "loud" part was always there. But Lower Decks really expanded on the capitalist libertarian culture of them Orions.

I mean the Orion slave girl thing started literally with thr unpaired pilot. So this goes back to the original. I do like that Enterprise and Lower Decks switched up the gender dynamics (expanding on Orions is probably the best thing Lower Decks contributed to the lore).

1. Clue (Paramount 1985). Still the all timer for me. Yes, a board game. But taking a game based on Christie archetypes to make a comedy based on a film adaptation of Christie mysteries (this is the basic And Then There Were None / that unfortunate original title)...

2. Fallout (Prime TV 2024). The second Ella Purnell project to show up on this list, and the standout is also Walton Goggins as The Ghoul. By setting part of this show pre-the Nukes (Spoiler: the first ones) was a stroke of brilliance as it really fits the most of the themes of the show and game.

3. Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (Paramount 2023). A great adaptation of a fun small campaign, doesn't take its source material too seriously while alsonlovingly portraying the world of Faerun. And everyone is at their charismatic best, even those with low Charisma.

4. Arcane: League of Legends (Netflix 2021). I don't play League of Legends. I had no interest in League of Legends. I know I am too old for MOBAs, but the characters in this show has me interested. Like fighting games, MOBAs are about characters first, and this show gets into it...

6. The Last of Us (Max 2023). Surprising to be so low, but not surprising to be on this list. I debated about this - the original game is very cinematic for this purpose and the show adapts it straight. It has one particular episode that makes it stand out thanks to Nick Offerman. But...

7. Twisted Metal (Peacock 2023) is a show that should not be as good as it is. It's made years after the original destruction derby fighting game and made with obvious passion. Better than your usual post-apocalyptic action comedy while being both poignant and fun. Also - it's ACAB: the series.

8. Mortal Kombat (1995). Why this is so low on my list is surprising to me, but I had to keep bringing it down. It was my favorite for most of the 90s, until I reassessed with my number 1. That said, the original game is a b-movie gore fest influenced by Fists of Fury and Bloodsport, so is this...
