Here's one of my two F cameras - I just love 'em. For standard lenses, it's hard to go wrong with either the Nikkor-S 50mm f/1.4 or the Nikkor-H 50mm f/2.0

Hmm, that would be a bit concerning.

Here are the results from CWD testing during 2023 (left; 708 positive cases) and 2024 (right; 472 positive cases).

Not encouraging, and the westward spread is visible even over just the one year.

…and how it ended.

How today started vs. how it proceeded.

Just before the end of legal light this evening, two does wandered into view at ~200 yards. I was hoping that a buck was shadowing them, but if one was I didn’t see him.

This is what one of those does looked like in the tall grass - which explains rather well why I don’t have a full freezer.

I can think of far worse ways to spend the past two evenings than enjoying this view from a hunting blind, watching for whitetail bucks.

Obligatory crumb shot.

That’ll do nicely, thank you very much.

Here’s what the second boule’s singing sounds like:

With Fall comes the beginning of sourdough bread season. Here’s the first boule, fresh out of the oven.

Is a fatbike overkill for the 1-2 cm of snow we’ve received thus far today?

Of course it is.

Do I care?

Of course not.
November 7, 2025 at 4:17 PM
Yea, it really was. It was surprisingly good off-road, too - early Transporters had more ground clearance than one would expect, given the reduction gear in the rear drive hubs (which moved the half-axles to the top of the hubs).

Well, colour me bummed.

After re-commissioning my fatbike for winter duty, I went for a quick test ride - and came across one of our neighbourhood merlins (Falco columbarius), dead in the back alley.

Rest in peace, you dear little murderbird.

The only genuinely dumb design element is that the double side doors opened front first, then rear.

Given that the sink/icebox unit makes it impossible to enter/exit by opening just the front door, you had to open+close both doors, every time. Which was perpetually annoying, esp. in bad weather.

With snow forecasted - at long last! - to arrive later today, I suspect that my fatbike will take over commuting duties tomorrow morning.

On that topic:

I walked to work today, carrying my 1952 Leica iiif camera, to which I screwed a recently-acquired 5cm 1:2 Summitar lens.

I'll likely send the lens off for a CLA soon (as there's a slight haze that I hope can be removed), and wanted to get a few 'before' shots.

Cinnamon buns, fresh from the oven!

Yes, exactly - it’s a heavy canvas chest protector, which he started wearing after needing some stitches from encountering some cast-off barbed wire.

He considers it his “fun vest” - whenever it comes out, he knows we’re going somewhere fun.

This is an old picture, from one of Logan’s first hunts. It was on this trip that everything clicked for him, and he came to realize what he was meant to do. I still remember watching that realization unfold, in real time.

There are few things in life finer than an evening spent with Logan, doing the very thing for which he was bred (and that certainly gives him the most joy).

I'm not sure how many more such evenings we'll share, given his worsening arthritis. But damn do I appreciate each and every one of them.
October 29, 2025 at 4:23 AM
Hmm…
October 24, 2025 at 2:40 AM
I was lucky enough to pick these up second-hand as well. I'm going to have to build some matching tables for them.

Logan says hello!

I wholeheartedly approve of your Morris chair+Mission-style lamp pairing. (I’ve done something similar.)
