Happy feast of Saint Alberto Hurtado sj, patron of Chilean workers.

From the introduction of his 1950 book “Sindicalismo” (Trade Unionism):

“It is a well-proven fact by history, that the rise of the working class has always been the result of their own efforts, having reached a mature state”

I need to share the amazing new stadium my beloved football club is about to inaugurate. Man, I wish I could be there.

Ahh, the struggle to make English-speaking academic publishers and platforms understand that we Latin Americans usually have two last names, and that I'm not "Jorge García" but "Jorge Leyton García". Don't get me started with my second name...

How are we supposed to encourage students to fully engage with the material we study (aka reading it) if editorials or content providers are embedding AI tools in their platforms, allowing them to study without actually reading it?

A few weeks ago, I participated in this academic conversation as a peer commentator. It was an interesting exchange with colleagues about employment status and research methodologies. Thanks to the Global South Network for the invitation. @mauropucheta.bsky.social

Here, @davidallengreen.bsky.social identifies the crux of the problem with AI in the legal profession (and I would include legal academia and education there).

What’s the point of having bus lanes if you’re going to allow cars to park and bock them? (I was the upper deck at peak time Friday).

Last Friday, at a conference in the Faculty of Laws of the Universidad de Concepción, I presented some thoughts about disintegration, fissuring, and the role of technology in platform work, all part of my doctoral research. It was great to debate(remotely) with colleagues and friends back home.

Now, this is what I call a good organising strategy for platform workers.

It’s always nice to present my work at home, even if it’s online. On Friday, I’ll be talking about platforms, and technology’s capacity for “extreme fissuring” of workplaces and firms.

Did a small review job, got paid in books. Not ideal, but I think I choose the books well.
