Pileated Woodpeckers are feathered agents of destruction. I watched one at work on a rotting tree branch one time and was amazed at its capacity for carnage. I imagine the number of bugs the bird uncovered made the effort worthwhile.

The pope’s advocacy has been especially heartening, as has Mamdani’s election in New York. There has also been the bipartisan pressure to release the Epstein files. People are out in the streets, and not just on days of nationwide protests. I sense a powerful backlash against Trumpism.

I remember, though, being outraged on the regular by the way the Repugs treated Obama. Mitch McConnell’s theft of a Supreme Court seat made me crazy. What I have begun to feel with Trump is a sense of urgency in common with others, and hope that we will prevail.

Furthermore, a person could rape a child without even being a pedophile. So I think where Trump and his enablers are concerned, we should look at actions and make decisions according to the law.

Yes, a pedophile is someone who experiences sexual desire for children, but if a person never acts on the desire, there is no crime.
