Sliding down the wooden slides in the Salzwelten Salt Mines in Hallein (Salzburg) Austria in high school. The miners would descend down into the mines on wooden slides. Still remember it many, many years later!! Thanks for hosting @blackhillsparks.bsky.social !!! #parkchat

Had just a short time to experience Rainier. Made a decently long drive. Fought for a spot of parking at Paradise VC. Alas…the mountain was “in” that day.

I have been so fascinated with those subtle changes and how much life there is in the Sonoran! Kathleen DuVal’s new book, Native Nations discussed the human history of the Sonoran at length and highly suggest!

Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument has a great audio drive that helps find cristate cacti which was a very fun “where’s Waldo” type of exercise! Vicksburg was very informative if you are interested in the battlefield movements. #parkchat

Was very proud of myself when I could tell we left the Mojave and entered the Sonoran (for someone NOT from the desert!)

Grand Tetons, for reasons. Mt Rainier for similar reasons, and that first view of Yosemite Valley is breathtaking (though well into the park by then) but also driving to the Sonoran Parks and seeing the first glimpses of the Saguaro and Organ Pipe Cacti! #parkchat

El Tovar on the South Rim (Santa Fe), Old Faithful Inn (Yellowstone Park Company - subsidiary of Northern Pacific). I love the old lodges and always try to stay one night or have breakfast!
