A Scot, living in Banbury - crossroads of Oxon, Bucks, Northants, Warks. Birder & amateur photographer. If at first you don't succeed, we have a lot in common.
After the Penduline tit yesterday Kev Heath and I dropped in at Cheddar Reservoir for the pair of greater scaup - initially distant they made a close enough pass for a video and some photos @birdguides.bsky.social @btobirds.bsky.social.

Dipped penduline tits on 3 previous occasions, and this bird on Tuesday last week - 4th time proved to be lucky y'day - saw it with Kev Heath before it took to the sky flying strongly east to the disappointment of the audience and arriving birders @birdguides.bsky.social @btobirds.bsky.social.

A return to the brown shrike at Hollesley Common for Kev Heath, but a first for me, and a lifer - a cracking bird! Located it in the rain but dried up as the day progressed. Dartford warblers and woodlarks added to the cast @birdguides.bsky.social @btobirds.bsky.social @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social.

While at @wwtworldwide.bsky.social Slimbridge on Saturday we heard that bitterns were flying between the Zeiss and Van de Bovenkamp hides - went to have a look and saw two in flight @birdguides.bsky.social @btobirds.bsky.social @btoengland.bsky.social @slimbridge-wild.bsky.social.

Dropped into @wwtworldwide.bsky.social Slimbridge for Temminck's stint y'day - saw at middle distance before it relocated further back - closer than any of my previous views - and a lovely bird @birdguides.bsky.social @btobirds.bsky.social @btoengland.bsky.social @slimbridge-wild.bsky.social.

The dusky warbler showed well for Kev Heath and I at Walsey Hills NOR this morning. Relatively dense foliage but we could follow the bird as it passed through. Good to bump into Shaun Evans - been a while @birdguides.bsky.social @btobirds.bsky.social.

Dipped red-tailed shrike at Dunwich Heath y'day - departed overnight - eventually made for St Peter & St Paul's Church Aldeburgh with Kev for a yellow-browed warbler. Showed well but as always moved quickly through the trees, hard to catch in the open @birdguides.bsky.social @btobirds.bsky.social.

Y'day morning, after Pitsford Water, Kev & I relocated to
@wildlifebcn.org Summer Leys. It's that time of year when jack snipe return to the UK. Somehow Kev managed to pull out one in cover at >100m - also entertained by the long-staying glossy ibis @birdguides.bsky.social @btobirds.bsky.social.

With more inclement weather forecast (windy), Kev Heath & I visited Pitsford Water y'day to see the American golden plover - distant from the Bird Club hide but in silhouette from James Fisher hide - nice to see @bear53.bsky.social - @birdguides.bsky.social @btobirds.bsky.social @wildlifebcn.org .

Just as we were about to climb up onto the sea wall at Frampton Marsh, Kev Heath spotted a stoat in the grass with what perhaps looked like a young rat? - there was a moment of 'you can't see me' then a mad dash to reach the cover of the reeds @rspbframptonmarsh.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social.
