We assumed this following the #BlackCarbon detection method developed by the University of Hasselt, Belgium lab (Bové & Naurot) ~10 yr ago.
Congrats to Prof. Grigg for the study confirming it through same day personal exposure.
NOTE: BC short term exposures also can be revealed in urine samples.

Likely they chose to balance energy use with open windows. Health risk is often not the only factor. Highly-occupied naturally-ventilated buildings typically don't have fan forced air.
