Should we stay silent when members of our ingroup behave in a way that we think is counterproductive or harmful out of fear that our criticisms might be weaponized by the outgroup?

I swear this isn’t an “enlightened centrist” take, but I’m curious how you think a culture can hold itself accountable when, by simply criticizing the excesses of people you otherwise agree with, you are then held responsible for the other side’s excessive reaction?

I think it’s largely because of modern, cheap-ass construction techniques. The cost of building a huge house versus a more reasonably sized one is almost negligible given how cheap (i.e. bad) the materials are today. So they just build the bigger ones because of the ROI.
