i work at an open-access community college that is trying pretty desperately to avoid the attention of the hard-R Republicans who control much of the funding at the state level. So far, so good, but we worry every day.

I'm not going to say Covid has no connection, but I strongly suspect part of the disengagement is the widescale parental monitoring and interference from CMS - their parents control everything and they are responsible for nothing

Every mew administrative hire - and there's always new administrative hires - creates new tasks that exist primarily to justify the mew administrator's position. No reduction in what was already considered a full load for faculty members - just one more deadline
