Executive Order 14253, Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History (2025) has the potential to alter how this history is told, thereby marginalizing and erasing the history of the Cheyenne and Arapaho people who (through involuntary actions) inhabited this land. 🧵

It is a deplorable part of American History, but it is true and accurate. The truth is often repulsive and horrendous.

But it IS American History.

And it NEEDS to be taught.

During the massacre, soldiers used children as target practice, removed fetuses from pregnant women, and removed sexual organs and other body parts from Cheyenne and Arapaho men and women to display as trophies. Many put on display later in Denver.

It was well documented on both sides.

It was a slaughter of mostly women, children, and elderly people. Around 230 Arapaho and Cheyenne people were murdered. 🧵
