I’m still doing my best to understand all that happened, especially the history before the Mayflower. No worries!

My response wasn’t to you, it was to an oversimplification of Thanksgiving.

I don’t think I made any statements of what we should do now or anything of that nature.

And thanks, for somehow painting this weird picture of me saying “axckthually” 😂😂

Pretending is never an excuse for reality. Period. This is why we are doomed to repeat history.

Fair, I understand that a lot of what was taught is not exactly historical, but especially in grade school.

Here’s a decent documentary about the Mayflower, it doesn’t dive into much from the First People’s history. It’s based from the Pilgrims perspective.

I can’t argue that something like giving thanks and finding gratitude is a bad practice. But I think it’s definitely important to portray historical context and events as they were and not to sugar coat it. What happened was absolutely horrific and I can’t imagine why we pretend otherwise.

i'm not sure if this was meant to be directed at me, but i definitely was not even coming close to speaking of anything that the Wampanoags and many other tribes faced before the Mayflower and no disrespect was meant by my brief response to someone else's post of Natives helping the Pilgrims.

Maybe you should become particular with the specifics since even if it isn’t related to “your tribe”, it’s very much a part of all of American history which is how and why we are all here today.

*colonized not colonnaded 🙄

The Wampanoag were in need with help from other tribes they were at war with. They saw a chance of helping their survival with eventually packing up with the Pligirams of the Mayflower, but there wasn’t this simplicistic good nature helping thing that people think.
