While the West is being distracted by political saga, conflicting ideologies, debating "which president tells the most lies?" the East is industrializing, owning the global tech and finance markets—building on stability provided by a lack of political rivalry.

I realised something interesting today:

If I were to round off -1.5 to the nearest integer, my elementary math knowledge says I'll get -2.0 [round ↑].

Now I'm realising that I'm actually rounding down . because truly rounding up would be -1.0 since -1.0 > -1.5 and -2.0 < -1.5.

As we pursue our resolutions for this new year, please remember that consistency isn't only your ability to work without losing your streak.
If you can get back to it after every break, when life happens, you're consistent.
Happy new year!

I love how this similar idea was deconstructed by Carl Sagan in his book "Pale Blue Dot"The Great Demotions.
We're not central to everything. The stars don't orbit around us. Our planet isn't the center of the heavens; the sun isn't central to our Galaxy; the Milky Way isn't central to the universe.
Nobody ever planted a tree in this photo. It was a working gravel pit 30 years ago.

We need to get over our obsession with planting trees and let nature do the job. The results are just SO much better.

It's also about realising we are not, in fact, central to everything. 🌍

I'm planning of starting a web design agency while teaching myself web design.
Now, I imagine a client asking:
"Um, what are your qualifications 🧐🧐?"
Me: "Masters Degree in Design at UHS."

Lot's of stuff 📚 to learn in part II of Learning Web Design. Details that I haven't come across in paid online lessons all in a single book. Looking forward to applying all these to the Brew Haven website I've been working on.

How old were you as a developer when you realized that Firefox, yeah Firefox, doesn't natively support mp3 and mp4 media formats?
I noted this during one of my practice sessions.

Anyway, I did a review of table markup from CH.8-Learning Web Design and here's a peek.

Now in chapter 10, Jennifer teaches about Embedded Media. Learned about the old/extinct object/embed elements and also the relatively new audio and video elements.
Since websites are majorly visual, this knowledge will be very much required in building engagement with visitors.

Rounded up with Chapter 9 (Form Markup) of Learning Web Design by Jennifer Robbins today. I am already applying some CSS without getting to the CSS section of the book. I can't wait to see what I'm capable of and here's a testament to my progress 👇

For those who don't know, I'm teaching myself web design from scratch as opposed to spending thousands of $$$ at a college program.
All I have is one textbook, a pen and paper, and my laptop.

I really like the way Jennifer Robbins provides external links to articles for further reading in her book—Learning Web Design—like this one:

They help me review previously learned topics while providing more insights.

Responsive Images 101, Part 1: Definitions
Over the last few years, we’ve written a quite a few articles about responsive images. Now that responsive images have landed in browsers, it seemed like a good time to step back and cover the basics ...

I've only been here for a few days, but this is the only social media I'm really into. I hope it doesn't get nuked like good ol' Twitter.

Currently reading chapter 8 (Form Markup) in Section 1(HTML for Structure) by Jennifer Robbins. I've been able to build this webpage after all the studying and exercises. It's only poorly responsive (that's for another chapter).
Looking forward to more progress.

I've been teaching myself web design from a textbook — Learning Web Design by Jennifer Robbins.
I'll be posting updates on my learning progress daily to document what it looks like to learn web design/dev without formal college education.
