For me the cloud version covers that. I once read of a guy who had to chop a hole to escape through his roof as the flood waters rose up, and then he was displaced hundreds of miles away. But bought himself a Chromebook and still had all his digital stuff safe and sound.

Yep, I went through the floppy era, the CD era, and now I'm wondering about getting rid of my hard drives and getting some SSDs. Still have many thousands of slides and negatives too!

I use the 3-2-1 backup rule on everything important, with one copy in the cloud and at least two copies at home on hard drives.

The idea that consumers can shop around for their healthcare is just absurd. Tell that to someone who lives in rural Vermont with maybe one hospital within 60 miles.

Ha! Try getting a straight quote from any healthcare provider for anything. They simply won't do it.

OK. One option for the future is Bitwarden password manager premium ($10 per year) that includes authenticator codes.

You signed in on both phones with the same Google account? I did this recently on two old phones to use as backups and all the codes were just there immediately.

Ask them to list what's in their fridges right now. If they don't know it's a bad sign.

Seems correct to me. When I think monopoly I think of companies that control a market. FB just one among many. Websters: "exclusive control of a particular market that is marked by the power to control prices and exclude competition"

The subscription departments of every news source are the worst! I would gladly subscribe to some local sources if I could speak to a real human being located nearby who isn't trying to scam me. Try to unsubscribe and you will be funneled into customer service Hell! And it won't work...

I don't follow the numbers much. I only post stuff I like and I think others might like or find interesting.

What if the "next wave" is anti-big tech, anti-ai, and pro-data sovereignty?

Average citizens aren't intimidated. The problem is in Congress.

Or, you set up passkeys and tell Google to not ask for a password whenever possible and it always asks for a password and 2fa instead of a passkey.

Also, device-based passkeys using physical hardware keys like Yubikeys. I like them the best, assuming they work the same on Linux as on Apple and Microsoft systems.
