You can prove ice expansion for yourself by paying attention to what happens when you make ice cubes.

You are correct that Hot air expands and ice, when warmed melts. And water, when frozen, also expands, because when water freezes into ice crystals which also capture bubbles of air and untimately will take up more space that it did when it was water. 1/2
