You're right about that final duel - brutal and satisfying in a way that would be shocking in any film of the time, let alone this otherwise gutless one.

I like George Sanders in it! I found him to be a compelling and complex villain. And Elizabeth Taylor is wonderful. But man, Robert Taylor is such a dud in it. Forget Errol Flynn, he's no Costner. And yeah, while I enjoyed it well enough as a kid, I really should have liked it more. Stiff and empty.

I loved Del Toro's, but Branagh's is so good! His maximalism, energy, and sense of melodrama make it a rich, thrilling adaptation. He does such a great job making you really like and understand Dr. F without backing away from how awful he becomes.

Every time! It's not usually until about draft 4 that I start to feel like I'm starting to get there.

7 normally. Functional with 6, mostly functional with 4 on melatonin, definitely doing a 9-10 night if I do a 4-6. But 7 is good normally.
