I think too we're struggling under the weight of a massive right-wing propaganda machine. The Right objectively does talk incessantly about "wokeness" and anti-LGBTQ stuff. And their messaging is "the Dems are woke & gay." People believe the propaganda, even if they disavow the content of it.

The "may or may not" here demonstrates exactly how and why the entire media failed us and helped normalize fascism.

The media is pathologically committed to "he said/she said" framing bc it's a cheap veneer of objectivity. Fascists know this and lie, and the media gives the lies equal weight.
