7/12 This image (Fig. 5) shows this clearly. We measured high linkage disequilibrium (no meiotic crossing over) across the histone cluster. In contrast, the control segments flanking the cluster showed low linkage disequilibrium as expected. This suggests special processes in this locus.

Sequencing used to be a big deal!

Yeah. Found the same passage. 98.3% is a fine start. Hard to evaluate read length since this was run on a 222-bp sequence. The modal length appears to be 222-bp or close to it.

Ahh, yes, their marketing claims were substantially higher (Q39). I misremembered. It was F1 for genotypes that was between 99% and 99.9%.

I might even have obsessed a bit over it and extracted the data and plotted some figures of interest. 😳

I most remember the dogmatic assertion that manual curation has no role in genomics. Drosophila jamborees be damned! But I'm reminded that authors of automated tools actually look at manual curation as excellent, but too expensive to employ most of the time. 2/2

I'm teaching a two week stint in our graduate evolution reading class. I just returned from an invigorating
#TAGC24, and I'm super excited to be back in the lab. I'm feeling a lot of that energy bleeding into the grad course. Looking forward to the next two weeks!

Public service announcement. This is how you search for exact phrases in macOS Preview.

I have spent years not realizing how to do this I don't know when it switched from using quotes around the phrase to using this drop down option, but it's been years. If only I'd known sooner!

Its answer was a big reach and pretty far off the mark. So I hinted at the actual situation:

Q: Could it be a mistranslation of the revolutionary phrase "Viva Zapata"? If so, how? Then it captured the consensus of the rest of the class that day.

Sometimes ads don't even make sense. What on earth is going on in this tableau? It looks like a young woman in judges robes is testifying? The gallery is filled with other people also in judges robes. A prominent American flag on wall in the back of the gallery has 14 stripes and 6 rows of stars.
