It was clearly never about drugs, so what I am curious about is what the plan is for when Maduro is acquitted by a jury in New York. Will they just air drop him back in Venezuela, or send him to Guantanamo?

Trump pardons Honduran ex-president who was convicted of drug crimes
President Trump has officially pardoned former Honduran President who US officials said was at the center of one of the largest and most violent drug-trafficking conspiracies in the world.

The solution is simple (build more houses). But as you said, overcoming political paralysis and balancing environmental concerns are more difficult. Hopefully the new cabinet can finally force buy-out the farms and begin to get nitrogen under control as we are required to by both Dutch courts&the EU

I think they have a plan for housing like Trump had a concept of a plan for healthcare in the US.

Every year they have a fresh excuse as to why they can’t build any houses.

1. Covid
2. Inflation from Covid
3. Work shortage from Covid
4. Energy costs due to War in Ukraine
5. Environmental issues

But in Amsterdam (at least in 2019) they had this incredibly stupid policy that only 2 unrelated adults could register at the same house unless the landlord got a permit from the gemeente. Somehow they thought would help the housing problem 😂 the Dutch have no idea how to handle housing.

This was back in 2019! Can’t imagine how much more difficult it has become after the 2024 affordable rent law was passed.

I also moved to Amsterdam to do my masters. A few days before classes started, all of the international masters students met and were asked “who here hasn’t found housing yet?” A surprising number of hands went up. I know a guy that was bouncing between hostels & AirBnBs while studying. Insanity

Vegan doesn’t necessarily equal healthy. Plenty of junk foods are vegan (fries, potato chips, various candies, etc.)

But you’re right - too seldomly do countries actively intervene in an ongoing ethnic cleansing/genocide/however you want to describe it
May 7, 2025 at 5:44 AM
Normally other governments at least openly condemn the country committing the acts of violence. Yet, the Netherlands government even went to court to ensure that they could keep sending Israel spare parts for them to continue their bombing campaign.

Netherlands to challenge court ruling blocking F-35 spare part exports to Israel
The Dutch State said it will appeal a decision barring the Netherlands from delivering F-35 fighter jet parts to Israel.

It’s also unusual for the entire international community to sit idly by while the ethnic cleansing is taking place.

The man is a known alcoholic and even said himself “I promise to stop drinking if I’m confirmed”. Implying that he does, in fact, have a problem with alcohol.

The spinelessness of GOP senators for confirming should highlight how little they care about our national security.

This is great news for Russia.

They use "Foundations of Geopolitics" to guide some of their foreign policy, and are quite successful as you can see from this summary of their goals for the US.

While it was written in 2016, “Strangers in Their Own Land” gives good insight into the rural/urban (and red/blue) division in politics. The author goes out to the small towns and gets to know the people.

Highly recommended if interested in this topic.

This argument has never made sense. Tenants do not set their own rent prices - the (likely Dutch) landlord does. A few years ago a survey showed that internationals paid substantially higher rents than Dutch people for similar housing
