With the closure of #UNITAD’s mission, the focus must now shift to the next phase of #justice in #Iraq. The end of UNITAD’s mandate should not be seen as the conclusion of efforts to seek #accountability but as the beginning of a renewed commitment to justice.

Seit März 2018 betreiben wir unsere Einrichtung für psychische Gesundheit in #Mosul. Neben der direkten Therapie von Traumatisierten bieten unsere Kolleg*innen auch regelmäßig Fortbildungen für externe Fachkräfte, wie vergangene Woche im Qadsiya Health Center.

On Sunday, the NGO 'Camp Speicher' in Iraq held a conference in Baghdad to mark the tenth anniversary of the #Speicher Massacre on June 12, 2014. The event was attended by dignitaries and stakeholders committed to justice and remembrance, including representatives of Coaltion for Just Reparations.

This year, we harvested some three tons of pomegranate, and close to a ton of olives in our #healinggarden. Part of the harvest will be made into pomegranate syrup and olive oil.

Each year, our centers join the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.

In August we published “After all, they were only children …“,
a research assessing needs and possibilities for a community-reintegration program for children formerly associated with ISIS and other affected children and youth in Iraq, supported by @diplo.de.

"After all, they were only children..." “The basis for [the societal re-integration of Children Associated with Armed Forces and Armed Groups], however, lies in well-trained and highly motivated staff, who dedicate their work to the idea that these children deserve all their empathy and who share the understanding that the children were exactly that at the time: children. They are not to be seen independently of the political situation they have been living in but as vulnerable minors who can easily be seduced – especially at the beginning of adolescence, when peers and other surroundings become more important than parents as part of the natural separation and individuation process that is initiated at this point in their development.” – Korinna Fritzemeyer, Jiyan Foundation Auswärtiges Amt financially supported the production of this study.
