US imm laws force parents to make impossible choices. Leave a sick USC child in the US? Bring them with you? Laws to promote family unity for mixed status families are desperately needed, otherwise we will see this play out time and time again.

Either way, ICE always has the discretion to give people more time to prepare for their removal. And given the extreme vulnerabilities in this case, it is beyond the pale that they moved to remove the family without any opportunity to make a plan for their safety.

Prior admin has something called the “Parental Interests” directive that requires ICE to give parents a chance to make a plan for their USC kids prior to their deportation. We don’t know if it’s still in place. My guess it’s not.
