Another batch of #cheetah coming to India from #Southern #Hemisphere country #Botswana instead of equatorial country Kenya.Previous experience suggest different hemisphere cheetah's biological clock disrupt so their adaptability. Most of cheetahs are not in #forest but in fence.

Despite Pakistan’s appeals for rethink on the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) 1960, India has chosen to remain silent. Instead, India is proactively bolstering its water storage and canal infrastructure, strategically positioning itself to divert the flow of water from Pakistan’s rivers ahead of any negotiations. India has launched a pre-feasibility study for the construction of the Chenab-Ravi-Beas-Sutlej link canal project aimed at diverting water from the Chenab currently flowing into Pakistan under the currently inactive Indus Waters Treaty (IWT).

India is preparing to send 6 Royal Bengal #tigers (2 female and 4 male) to Cambodia, where the tiger went extinct in 2007 after the monsoon. India has been helping #Cambodia rewild the tigers for the past 4 years in #Cardamom #National #Park.
According to a report from the US-based @OurConservation, the current tiger-prey density in the park can support at least 4 tigers. India has been supporting #Cambodian govt in capacity building for the past 4 years to prepare the park for the arrival of tigers.

Supreme Court has questioned the #Environment ministry over inadequacy in the #Green #Credit Rules 2023 which would negatively impact India’s #forest #conservation& violate rights of #indigenous people.
Environmental groups, such as Haryana-based People’s Group for Aravalli and Goa-based Rainbow Warrior, filed a petition against the Green Credit Rules 2023, saying itwill ruin India’s important forest landscapes, such as the 692-km Aravalli Ranges spread over four states and biodiversity hotspots, such as the Western Ghats.

There is a huge gap in gender gap in India over #unpaid #work. Women even take less sleep than men, also spend time of socialization. Meanwhile, urban men spend less on self-care(including sleep) than rural India but spend more time on socialization than rural India.

A warmer winter with no snowfall led to premature bud break and early flowering, resulting in poor fruit setting and quality.A warm and dry winter that depleted waterbodies and caused poor horticultural production. In the dormant stage, apples need at least 1200 hours of chilling below 7.5 °C during winter, especially in January and February, to get robust bud break and flowering.

Why amended forest conservation act 2023 is under #India's Judicial lens? I explained that how FCA 2023 contradict other law such as FRA 2006 and changes the whole governance structure leading to irreversible damage to #forests.
There are nearly 0.2 million sq km of Deemed Forest land available which govt intend to delete it forever form its governance record and commercialise it. Deemed forest is an unrecorded forest in the forest department record which is not notified as forest. However, several government ‘records’ consider it as forest. The new law changed the whole dynamics of the forest governance may lead to severe depletion of forest in coming days. The amendment has diluted many conservation provisions including protection of deemed forest. Also, the amendment has given abundance of powers to the State Governments to notify the rules and guidelines without requirement of any prior permission from the Central Government for clearing any unclassified or deemed forest. The new law favours diversion of forest land for non-forestry purposes in lieu of money for afforestation instead of land for land arrangement under previous law. The old law was clear on it – if the Govt divert a piece of land to an agency for non-forestry purposes,then the agency should provide an equivalent piece of non-forest land for afforestation purposes. Further, the law that would promote error of double counting of the forest land. For instance, Forest areas which will be diverted for non-forest purposes like dams, canal or roads is lost for ever but it will remain to be as a forest in forest record and new land where afforestation will take consider as the additional forest areas. Further, the amended law exempt the requirement of forest clearance for the use of forest land for numbers of non-forestry purposes. It exempts forest clearance for the forest land within 100 km of the international border to build defence establishments and public utilities, exempts forest land alongside railways, roads. The FCA 2023 amendment has also transgressed the landmark law Forest Rights Act 2006 (FRA) which gives community or forest dwellers rights over their habitation and natural resources to sustain their livelihood..

IMD forecast warmer and drier February, too. La Nina phenomenon will persist but will continue to be weaker.
The country’s mean temperature in January was 18.98 degrees Celsius, the third highest for the month since 1901, behind 1958 and 1990.

Rising temperatures are increasing dengue cases and subsequent deaths in India. If not intervened in, dengue-related deaths may increase from 13% in in2030 to 40% by 2050.

According to the study, the combination of warm temperatures above 27°C, moderate and evenly distributed rainfall, and humidity levels between 60% and 78% during the monsoon season (June–September) increases dengue incidences and deaths. Temperature and humidity over India are projected to increase further into the future, while the monsoon rainfall patterns will become more erratic, dashed with heavy-to-extreme rains. With this, the climate model shows that the overall increase in warmer days is dominating the future changes in dengue.

The Indian #Meteorological Department is mulling over the idea to make domestic airlines mandatory to share weather data. It will revolutionise weather forecasting precision as over 3000 domestic flights operates/day& also in remote areas like sea or ocean where current IMD hardly observe regularly.
AMDAR radar can be installed to get real-time data. Currently, IMD uses 50-60 balloons to get higher altitude data. However, the problem is cost. Communicating data will be a costly affair. Then who will be paid for it?
