The youngest ever participants are 11-year-old Belgian Nathalie Pâque, and 12-year-old Gili Netanel, whom represented France and Israel respectively in the 1989 contest. This, and other instances in recent, caused the EBU to amend the rules in 1990, barring under-16s from entering the contest. (2/2)

Eurovision facts: 8+9/30

The 2019 contest was held in Tel Aviv, Israel - but not in an arena, despite Israel having many. It was held in the Expo Tel Aviv, with the stage and most of the audience taking up Pavilion 2, and the green room (with more audience) taking up the smaller Pavilion 1. (1/2)

In fact, Ireland has the most wins out of any Eurovision country, with 7. They share this record with Sweden, who last won 2 years ago. (2/2)

Also, all footage of the 1956 contest is lost media, with the exception of Lys Assia's winning performance, with the song "Refrain". However, a complete audio recording of the show survives.

...was thought to have an impact on the result of the divorce law repealing referendum, which took place a month after the contest (6 April - 12 May).

The result of the referendum was a "No", which meant divorce continued to be legal in Italy. (2/2)

The other thing is that the 1993 contest was held in the small Irish town of Millstreet in the Green Glens Arena. It was suitable back then, and probably would be Ireland's best option for hosting now if they want to keep it in the ROI. If not, then Belfast, I guess?

Eurovision fun facts for pride month: Day 3+4/30

This year, Belgium was represented by Red Sebastian with the song "Strobe Lights". People liked it so much that it was 5th in the winning odds prior to the contest. It didn't make it through and ended second to last in its semi-final! 😲

The country was invited as a part of anniversary celebrations. After all, Eurovision was in its 60th year! As a guest participant, Australia automatically qualified to the final. The country was represented by Guy Sebastian with the song "Tonight Again", and ended in 5th with 196 points. (2/2)

After a countback, Sweden was announced as the winner, due to receiving more sets of 10 points than France (Sweden and France both received 4 sets of 12 points, the highest score the national juries give in Eurovision). Sweden had 5 countries give them 10 points, while France only had 2 sets of 10.

France was represented by Amina Annabi (pictured), an artist of Tunisian descent, with the song "C'est le dernier qui a parlé qui a raison", composed by Senegalese artist Wasis Diop and written by Amina herself. The song title was the longest song title in Eurovision for a while.

Sweden was represented by Carola Häggkvist (pictured) with the song "Fångad av en stormvind", written and composed by Stephen Berg.
Carola had also represented the country in 1983 with the song "Främling", and represented the country again in 2006 with the song "Invincible" (2/5)
