Tangentially related: A lot of homeowners here in Dallas routinely challenge their property taxes/home values because they're "outrageously high". (the taxes, not the homeowners) Our neighbors are shocked that we don't. Sorry, but we like having things like trash pickup, libraries, and schools.

I haven't seen one of those since I was a kid, visiting Sunken Gardens in St. Petersburg Florida. They were my favorite!
