The adrenaline of being in the running for the list, seeing Jungkook cook for his child, working in the kitchen again, and feeding off his staff's buzzing enthusiasm wears off about four hours into opening, and from there, Seokjin is running on fumes. He and Hyejin were right to come in and help because Namjoon was not joking when he said he could expect a "shitload" of new diners after the announcement of The Seoul Post nominees. EatJin stays packed the entire night, with a walk-in wait time of almost three hours—unheard of for them. And even with a full staff and the extra help of the owners, it's a madhouse; at some point, they tell Yoongi and Jimin to fuck their new menus and get back to work. By the time EatJin is closed, every guest has been wished a good night, and everything has been cleaned and put away, Seokjin feels like his brain has entered a coma and simply forgot to inform the rest of his body. To its credit, it gets him home safely, though he notes walking home after a long day at 3 a.m. is not going to work every day for the next few weeks. When he stumbles into his home at just a little past 3 a.m., having gotten his own passcode wrong several times after being unable to keep his eyes open, he expects to find Jungkook watching a movie on his own, or even tucked away and sleeping-ideally, in his bed but he knows Jungkook would never do that even with his express permission. Instead, he finds all the lights and TV on, a prompt on the screen asking if Jungkook and Ryujin were still watching whatever they had been watching. And they're not. Because Jungkook is entirely knocked out, laying on his back with his cheek pressed into Seokjin's couch, a small pout on his lips as he breathes slowly and evenly, and Ryujin-in her Hello Kitty pajamas—is strewn across him, her own cheek squished against his chest, mouth wide open as she snores loudly. Her small arms are wrapped around his torso in the world's littlest hug, and his hands are resting against her back like he was worried she'd roll off in her sleep. Seokjin having trouble keeping his eyes open just seconds ago is long history. He feels a trickle of the same adrenaline from before entering his system at the sight of his daughter sleeping on Jeon Jungkook's chest. This is the same, little girl who fusses when she has to sleep anywhere other than her bed. This is the same, little girl who wouldn't talk to Namjoon for weeks because she said she didn't trust him (she only really started talking to him once he gifted her the collection of plushies she keeps in her room now). But she, for whatever reason, feels completely comfortable slumbering right on top of his ex-best friend's chest. And it makes him weak everywhere. It makes him want to wake Jungkook up right now and ask if he'll date him. It makes him want to find out if he's ever thought of having children—if he thinks he could be a stepdad. More than anything, it just makes him want to let Jungkook know he doesn't regret anything, but that he wishes he'd known sooner. Maybe nothing would've happened, maybe Jungkook wouldn't have even reciprocated his feelings, but looking at him with his daughter on the couch makes him think of all the years he could've been coming home to this. So he doesn't wake them up-doesn't even go to sleep in his room. He changes into his pajamas and comes out with pillows and blankets, turns off all the lights, turns the TV off, and after a struggle with trying to lift Jungkook's heavy ass head enough to shove a pillow under it and draping a blanket over the two of them, he makes himself comfy on the other side of the couch's sectional, the top of his head touching Jungkook's as he finally takes a deep breath and rests for the first time today. He drifts off to sleep thinking of scenarios where he would wake up next to Jungkook in a bed instead of by him on the couch. Maybe Ryujin would come in and wake them up begging Seokjin for breakfast like she usually does. Maybe she and Seokjin could surprise him in bed with food. Maybe his daughter would be with her mom for the weekend and Seokjin could take his time waking Jungkook up in ways he hasn't been able to with any other man so far in this journey. He'd trail his finger down his bare chest, down his stomach. He'd smile a little when Jungkook sighs in his sleep and reflexively scoots closer to him. He would gently caress the expanse of smooth skin just above the waistband of his sweats-slowly, back and forth until his eyes flutter open, he takes a deep breath and stretches a little, and mumbles a sleepy "good morning." Seokjin would snuggle into his neck and plant small kisses there before letting his hand wander beneath the waistband, lower and lower until Jungkook is fully awake and moaning unspeakable things in his ear. It's a wonder he manages to fall asleep with his active imagination. When Seokjin wakes up, the two are still sleeping, seemingly haven't moved from their position, though the blanket looks like it had been kicked off by Ryujin sometime in the night. He takes a few moments to watch them, enjoying the fact that his daughter is so cared for and loved by some of the best people he knows. And he hopes Jungkook will continue to be one of those people for a long time to come.
