Yes, I said 8-Track. Have I mentioned that I'm old?

By this time I was using Rolling Stone's "Album Guide" book & "Best Albums of All Time" issue to find my way. "Blue" was on the list, but I found this on 8-Track instead. And I'm glad I did. This is deep & thoughtful music I'm still learning from 40 years later. youtu.be/BsWVRN8DDjs?...

Another gem from the Camelot Records cut-out bin. This 6-LP box set contains Tangerine Dream's earliest & most experimental work. It's some of the first ambient or drone-based music I've heard. youtu.be/-WRDQmFJhFQ?...

Some of the first Hip-Hop I heard. Pretty sure I got this at Famous Records, a record shop in downtown McKeesport where I would hang out whenever I could.

Found this in the McKeesport Carnegie Library's used bookstore. A lot of my interests in Folk Music & politics/social justice can probably be traced back to this album.

Found in the McKeesport Library's used book store. I guess I picked up a good bit of my interests in Folk Music & politics from this album.

This was another early CD find. Paul Simon's "Graceland" was already out for a while when I spotted this in the cutout bin at Camelot Music's Century III Mall location. This was a revelation, and riffs from it still pop up in my head 30+ years later

My first CD! This had a fantastic track listing, & having it open & close with the 2 versions of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" (Gladys Knight & the Pips and Marvin Gaye) was a nice touch.

Anybody who knew me in high school could see this coming. Had all the lyrics memorized at one point & would write them out during particularly boring classes.

During high school, I had a couple volumes from this series on cassette. This was how I started learning about Jazz (after seeing Dizzy Gillespie on the Muppet Show). From a strong batch of tracks, I'd like to highlight Ella Fitzgerald's stupendous "Good Enough To Keep" (aka Air Mail Special).
