Adam Gopnik, writing about French voters who hated Jacques Chirac, but voted for him in 2002 to stop the fascist Jean-Marie Le Pen. His "wise premise" has eroded even in France since. In the US, it simply isn't widely held.

I'm not a big podcast guy, but just wanted to say I listened to part 1 of their 4-part series on the middle east while walking the dog, and ... it was outstanding: informative, historically accurate, empathetic, vivid.

The dog claimed to be unimpressed, but you can't please everyone.
