The order to boost logging on national forest land included a map that made no distinction between wilderness areas, where logging is banned, and non-wilderness

The USDA later clarified that it would reduce the BWCAW's high-risk wildfire areas with prescribed burns and other methods, not logging

From 1990 to 2020, Minnesota and Wisconsin saw the WUI area grow 31.4% and 41%, respectively. Similarly, the number of homes in WUIs jumped 31% in Minnesota and 33.6% in Wisconsin over those 30 years.

Most counties in NE MN and NW WI saw those figures jump by double-digit percentages over 30 years.

Gear check ahead of tomorrow’s race. Todd True of Esko is making attempt #2 at the 135-mile race after dropping out 35 miles into the 2023 race. He said it’s going to be “a nice long run in the woods — hopefully.”
