Very little detail on this match other than scorers & some player names although it is noted that the McCreadie brothers of Rangers played for Celtic. Herald report here

Celtic started this match with only 9 players with the other 2 players appearing soon after the start. I have 2 reports, one of which gives the scorer of 3 goals and the other report names the full team. I am still looking for the other 2 scorers.

On the basis of the above, I've always had it as a "void match". The Scotsman covers it here although they state it has to be "replayed". I think it's just the terminology used and the fact is no matter the score the match was going to be played again

Here is the Greenock Telegraph report (3 parts) where he played for Port Glasgow Athletic v Celtic at Clune Park, Port Glasgow on 01/12/1888 in a Friendly Match.

Here is a newspaper report confirming Pat Dowling's move from Port Glasgow Athletic to Celtic in January 1889. He made his first App for Celtic on 03/01/1889 in a Benefit match v Corinthians in aid of the East End Poor Children's Dinner Table
