Why do Apple make the iMac such terrible value? In fact the iMac plus the inflated cost of the Studio Display make putting together any kind of all-Apple desktop a non-starter. You have to buy at least some non-Apple gear to get any kind of value. I’m willing to pay an Apple tax, but £1000?

@eufysecurity.bsky.social I’m not sure if you guys realise how off-putting having ads thrust into your security camera app is. I’m basically considering throwing out all the products I’ve bought from you and never buy from Eufy or Anker ever again. I didn’t pay to provide you with an ad platform.

Taking the jewellery from vulnerable refugees rings some pretty disturbing historical bells.

So let be get this straight. The chancellor has been indicating there will likely be income tax rises at the budget because it’s best for the national interest, but now she’s not going to do it to save Starmer from a challenge? These people are gutless and incompetent. No vision. No courage.

How about @vicderbyshire.bsky.social for BBC Director General? Be nice to have someone with some actual guts doing the job.

When I last tried Debian, I was annoyed it took, like, three floppy disks to boot (I am that old). Now I try again, and it’s still shit. I need to install old versions and all the mirrors are broken and basic ISOs missing.

Just realised I saw a third role where Jared Harris’ character committed suicide (Lane Pryce in Mad Men, Valery Legasov in Chernobyl and the Secretary of Defence in House of Dynamite).

Tell you what. OpenAI has a way to go convincing people to use their new Atlas web browser. Nowhere on the page for it does it say it’s a web browser. Nowhere. WTF?

So let me get this straight. If I pay for the content on Apple TV+, I can’t watch a show on my iPad and mirror it to the TV at the same time ‘because DRM’, the iPad screen goes blank. But if I had just pirated it, then I could. Right, got it.

Of course Starmer thinks what we really need is an ID system. Can we just get this over with now rather than wait until after the local elections? It’s such a waste of energy.

Anyone with a Disney+ subscription should join me in cancelling. Disney just fired the US later night host Jimmy Kimmel at the slightest pressure. This is a pathetic attack on free speech and it has to stop. The only thing these companies will understand is us refusing to be their customers.

Really not sure about the new iPhone 17 Pro design. The back and logo placement weird me out. And they’ve made the Apple logo too big in other places. Tiny details matter. I feel like they’re on the start of the shark-jumping ramp.

Just caught up on this Angela Rayner story. Talk about a nothingburger. Somebody has it in for her, clearly.

I’ve been using Anthropic models via various tools and found them to be impressive. I went to sign up more directly but I’m spooked by their frankly casual privacy policy and TOS. They will give your personal data to whoever they want and your model inputs are fair game unless you opt out.

@garyseconomics.bsky.social I broadly agree with the idea of wealth taxes but after looking at the numbers aren’t you overselling it a bit as a solution to inequality?Consensus seems to be a 2% wealth tax would raise £5bn - £20bn. Of course that’s welcome but it’s not game changing.

The only reason I can think of to explain why ‘The Pitt’, a spiritual successor to ER, isn’t available in the UK is because making decent drama is now banned. The industry can’t afford for this gem to slip out and make all the rest of the Disnetazon slop look as bad as it is.

I had heard that iOS 26 Liquid Glass was a bit of a car crash, but seeing is believing. If beta 3 is an improvement, I’d hate to experience the initial ’vision’. My phone is now physically too hot to touch in some places, the scrolling stutters, and all some of my app icons are blurry.

I’m watching North by Northwest and notice Cary Grant’s voice is weirdly familiar. Then it hits me, it’s from ‘Some like it Hot’ - the millionaire. But Grant isn’t in the film. Well apparently Tony Curtis had permission to do an imitation of Grant for the character! Great impression.

Just watching LauraK on BBC and saw @vicderbyshire.bsky.social interview someone. I’ve never been able to understand why this woman isn’t running the whole show over at the BBC. She’s so brilliant and tough and prepared.

‘Sugar tax could be applied to milkshakes under Treasury proposals’. Well, that’ll turn the economy around. Honestly, the lack of imagination in the Treasury is breathtaking.
