Author. Retired lawyer. Vegan. Student of anthropology and history, especially of the ancient Middle East and the origins and evolution of agriculture and the agrarian culture that built our Western worldview…
Which created the climate collapse
This is probably a good time to recommend this new book.
(Just imagine! An author who plugs another author’s book!)

Here’s a really good new book. An overview of our species—building, civilizations, wealth, power structures, etc., and how they collapse.

In a nutshell…
1. Domestication of animals.
2. Animal husbandry.
3. Humans learn male role in reproduction.
4. Men get chauvinistic/entitled.
5. Girls/women=
sexual property of men.
6. First slavery and sex trafficking.
7. Patriarchy, monotheism, history begins.

Definitely evil, but this raping underage girls goes way back. Safe to say it’s at the foundation of monism and western culture.

This might be a good time to plug my new book.
I look at the building blocks of our old agrarian culture.
You know, the one where God gives us dominion over the living world.
November 12, 2025 at 1:09 PM
Maybe it’s because we have a pretty badly fucked up world view. It tells us that we are special, a replica of God, and entitled to dominate everything.
This is dishonest.
This is delusional
This is inscientific.

A society that embraces this as normal is a society gone mad.
And now it is a global society

I just call it

Homo sapiens, people, have been thrilled, awestruck, inspired by sights like this for a couple hundred thousand years or more. This is why animals were regarded as having powers. For more on this. See the late Joseph Campbell’s book, The Way of the Animal Powers.

Gee whiz. Seems like ethicist Peter Singer and I exposed this 45 years ago in our ground/breaking book.

Find 1990 revised edition on used book sites.

A society that normalizes this under the lie of “necessity” is a dishonest society. And so the world has gone crazy.
November 6, 2025 at 11:26 AM
So true. My childhood on a rural Missouri farm forced me into routine cruelties of animal farming.
And that was the “good old-fashioned“ kind.
In my 30s, I toured dozens of factory farms, took photographs, and wrote a book with ethicist Peter Singer.

Get 1990 rev ed on used book sites.

So progressives extend compassion/inclusion to black, brown, disabled, trans, queer, and all sorts of persons physically and behaviorally different.

But no regard for “different” other animals?
Why?
Hint: an ancient ideology of human supremacy.

Our world view.
The one making our climate crisis.

To think that our ancestors constructed an entire world view that gave them license—indeed divine mandate—to do such things to our Animal cousins…
and by extension, the entire living world.

So it’s not hard to see why we are shuffling right along into a climate crisis.
November 5, 2025 at 11:00 AM
For details on mechanics and procedures of factory farming of all species see this book. Out of print, but used copies are available. Look for 1990 revised edition.
November 2, 2025 at 8:12 PM
Oh my my. Talking about the climate crisis and yet not a word, not a syllable, mentioning Animal agriculture. You know—the meat milk and egg industries.

Animal ag rivals fossil fuels in causing climate change. Not even a part of the conversation here.

Sad proof that we’re not gonna make it.

Animal agriculture has been poisoning our environment for the past hundred years.

Agriculture has been poisoning our views of the living world for the past 5000 years.

Former Princeton professor Peter Singer and I documented all of this with photographs in 1980 revised edition 1990

And here is my latest. More on my farm childhood experiences that led to my outrageous, subversive, radical thinking.

If you are non-yet-vegan, and/or feminist and/or religious, consider the fact that monotheism and patriarchy were invented by animal exploiters several thousand years ago.
Specifically, pastoralists—people who lived on (exploited ) herds of sheep, goats, cattle, etc.
