Since we are sufficiently civilized not to kill the uninsured, at least so far, every uninsured person increases the medical costs and insurance premiums for every one else.

I just finished listening to an audio book on the Plantagenets, who ruled Englang for 330 years.
They were awful kings. For three centuries, they bled England dry to fund stupid wars to try to regain William's lost domains in France.
But, we survived.
