It honestly doesn’t even have to be that crunchy. Instead of entering the dark forest, fighting spiders, then skipping ahead to finding the dungeon. Make the exploration an actual event, with problem solving and creative solutions

100% agree on the ranger thing. I feel like a lot of people shit on the favored enemy/terrain thing, because they are “too context specific”. But like… that’s mostly the DMs job. If you can give the Barbarian a big hefty enemy to tank for, then you can give the ranger an area for exploration

I never even thought of this before. The TTRPG Mörk Borg did a similar thing with their Skeletons, I wonder if this is why?
