John Deacon wrote some great songs for Queen over the years. I used to really like the song ‘Back chat’ off their funky attempt album Hot Space.

Tracie Young recorded and released some great songs over the two albums she released. Definitely more soulful than she was given credit for back in the day (as were The Questions & ACraze). Plus I used to enjoy listening toTracie’s radio show a few years back. Hope she’s well.

Don’t have the fabric sleeve but love The Darling Buds.

Listening to the release now - In my Life moves me every time I hear it.

Got my copy the other day. Vinyl sounds great - the song RoyalBlues has such a groove!

The amount of venues gone over the years is huge. When I was first going to gigs in the early 80s it seemed like everywhere had live music, nowadays you have to seek out a venue.

Currently reading Dan Jennings book, and am up to the early Style Council period. Loved the first couple of years of TSC and Respond era, enjoying the read ( but then I loved the podcast so I knew the book would be good!).

Fave Scottish band - The Questions.

Some of those bass lines on Queen songs were pretty funky eg Dragon Attack, Back Chat, My Baby Does Me etc. Top bass player & as you say respect for walking away after Mercury died.

Haven’t listened to any of these podcasts yet, which one do you advise starting with?

I saw Steely Dan play Wembley Arena years ago. They were great musicians, played perfectly and it was a good gig. However it was so slick & perfect that it did feel like it would’ve been the same experience if you just closed your eyes and played the records at top volume in your living room!

Underrated album for sure. Plus I think it’s an album that should be played in its entirety from start to finish to get the full benefit of the music.

Never cared for FABs. As a kid I considered it sophisticated to choose a dark chocolate choc ice. Do such things still exist? Where’s the ice cream van when you want it? ☹️

Saw some great gigs at The Astoria. One of the best was the Faith Brothers in 95 or 96 when they reformed for a couple of dates. Great band. I miss the Marquee as well. Scandalous that so many great music venues have gone over the years ☹️

I remember loving the song ‘Just play music’ way back when! This and E=mc2 are all I remember now - will definitely have another listen to some of their stuff later.

It does have the feel of a standard but if I’m honest I prefer the original version to this duet version. (Could be I’m biased as much to my wife’s annoyance I’ve never been a fan of Streisand as I find her style a bit too much)!

Loved the original version of Party Chambers on the single b side. Some of those Style Council songs are so underrated.

Each and every one still makes me smile every time I hear it. Proper top tune!

Still hoping that someday the Questions catalog gets a CD/Digital release & they have an official social media presence. Loved the band and still play their records now. Would also love to see both Paul & John releasing new material - both a great songwriters.

I never play the ‘New’ album. Probably haven’t given it a listen since it’s release as I just didn’t connect with it. Maybe time to give it another go.

Stone Foundation are a great band. As were the Questions back in the day and ‘The Learning Tree’ is one of the best songs on their album ‘Belief’.

So many great venues all gone, including pubs which used to host bands most nights. Remember the Playn Jayn, saw them quite a few times. Their live album is one of the few live albums that I think almost captures the live experience. Plus I was at the Marquee that night watching!

If my memory serves me correctly, I remember seeing Blow Monkeys & Kym perform this live at the HMV store in Oxford St, London when it was released back then. Brilliant record.

I miss record shops. It’s rare to find good ones these days - usually I see big HMV type shops that sell the current trends or greatest hits albums but a lack of good independent artists.
