Keith Robinson told of Hate, Hope and Upheaval as 339 travelled from the Black Country to Brazil.
The Black Country Society tonight heard how mainly poor Irish in Wednesbury and others from elsewhere left in 1868.
Keith’s great, great grandfather survived to inspire the Bilston Town Hall talk.

International Piano Star Jonathan Powell was home with a superb recital at St Michael & All Angels Church, Tettenhall, Wolverhampton, on Saturday with Polish music recital as part of celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the church being rededicated after a fire devastated it in 1950.

Threads unpicked in tonight’s Black Country Society talk - The West Midlands, the Slave Trade & Anti-slavery by Dr Malcolm Dick at Bilston Town Hall.
In the 18th and early 19th centuries the West Midlands had multiple links with the slave trade and slavery but others were opposed to slavery.

Great mix of self-penned songs and tunes by The Rosie Hood Band at Folk at Newhampton Arts Centre, Wolverhampton, on Saturday night.
Rosie’s lovely vocals matched and complemented by some equivalent quality fiddle, ukulele, guitar and accordion playing by the Sheffield-based band.

She helped organise with city community groups a rehang project in the Georgian Gallery to choose paintings from the gallery collection to focus on and explore and created their own works.

Music at St Peter’s Church, Wolverhampton, has free Friday lunchtime recitals.Thomas Howell (pictured) was on piano and organ on Friday 7th March. This Friday Jordan English is on organ. Recitals are at 1.15pm. On Thursday a paid Charles Francis organ recital has a pre-talk (6pm) - recital 7pm.
