Never done a #productHunt launch before, let alone thought I would be doing it for an ebook, but here goes nothing — it’s launch day for my Signal Over Noise AI Writing Field Guide!

RIP my iPhone 13 Pro Max. So far loving the 17 Pro. Much (*much*) lighter.

Because I’ve been watching the new #Daredevil and also because we introduced the kids to 1982’s ‘Annie’ with Albert Finney, this is the mashup that I need right now.

This autographed copy of Hitchhiker’s Guide. I went to a reading at the launch of Mostly Harmless (also autographed) and got to meet the late great Douglas Adams. He asked his assistant what the smiley face thing was and she told him that it was just something they put in for the American market.

It occurs to me that the @nytimes.com Connections game can also double as a password generator. #better-horse-battery-stapler @xkcd.com

@tailscale.com There’s no way this kind of battery usage is normal, is it?

So I dropped my phone last week, which shattered the back glass. Everything looks intact, there’s some mess around the camera area but I thought nothing visibly cracked. Now I’m getting this, I dunno, light bleed in some photos?

I put my entire network on it over the winter break, so can now access all my services from outside the house. This morning I configured all traffic to route via the DNS on my pi-hole. No more ads or trackers even when we’re out and about. 💪

So here’s the ideal remote setup - iPad Pro 11 with MK for main work, iPad Mini for GoodNotes, reading technical books. Both cellular. Only drawback is the sun glare - fine on the 11 as it has the awesome nano texture. But the Mini is a 6, so might have to look at getting a protector on it.

File server on my NAS and MacMini are mapped in my Files app, so I can get what I need in real time. But if I absolutely have to have access to the Mac Mini from outside the network, I can remote to it with Screens and Jump Desktop.

To that end, when I go portable, it will be on the iPad. I spent a couple of days implementing Tailscale across my entire network, so now I can get access to all my apps and data on the Mac Mini securely outside of the network. Stable Diffusion, local hosted LLMs, my Sonarr/Lidarr/Radarr setup etc.
