Great read. Even broader, throw in the Russo japanese war and WW1. russian society response to events that shook faith in the social contract with the regimes. After all what has made putinism work? A social contract that is now under threat. At odds with the views of many that russia always wins

Question.. had russia done the same under the biden admin what would be the response. Hypothetical I know , but not outside of the realm of possibility . Was US as a NATO ally reliable in 2024? What would another admin have done in these circumstances ? Article 5 vs article 4 ?

Terrible but let's be clear with language . Federal law enforcement? ICE ? . Yes wearing miltiary tactical gear (which is itself terrible )
not military units

it's good...but that 7.5 bn could be better targeted. The pacific garbage patch is only a tiny % of the plastic entering the ocean. Targeting the source at rivers is far more important.
Hannah Ritchie's 'Not the end of the world' looks at this problem specifically

The same guy who was responsible for getting clearance through Nigerian airspace for seal team 6 and just lied and said he did when he forgot to do it.

Australians are terrible drivers. Don't follow the rules, speed limits and drive angry. Germany at least everyone is orderly

You should try australia mate. Tolls and crap roads anyway.
Tyranny of distance and a smaller population

Hmm I would say both civilian population and oil refineries are 'strategic' but only one is a legitimate target under the loac. They are both executing 'strategies' however. Arguably they are both targeting what they see as strategic centres of gravity , but only one will prove to be 'succesful'.

Kind of weird to see yourself as part of a modern incarnation of the Civil War—and that you’re on the side of the slaveholders.

I think the read on Netanyahus rationale is way off in this one unfortunately. Also somewhat concerning is the dismissal of the 'what happens after' perspective

Disagree on part 2. But they were confident that once iran was on the ground trump wouldn't be able to resist kicking them while they're down. It's how he rolls.

This was largely because they were being made to march to songs that aren't standard tempos and when they're blared out along the length of the formation from spkrs the timing is different at front compared to end of column

Hmmm I dunno.. that seems more of a way to provide a face saver to trump doesn't it ?

Is it even worth pointing out how many sons of immigrants were the boys at Normandy ?
