There was no process. Like many Young Libs he helped out as a volunteer and hung around long enough and displayed his Tory purity enough to be offered a job. He was never a ‘senior advisor’ (which is a SES equivalent level), just a grunt.

Nothing wrong with Orton (although his diaries are exhausting) - Gary Oldman’s best (but strangely overlooked) performance is as Orton in Prick Up Your Ears (Alfred Molina is also incredible as Halliwell).

Travesties is marvellous, but I loved Rough Crossing. I’m surprised it gets so little love.

Spielberg has said that all the dialogue in Last Crusade is Stoppard’s. Which makes sense - the dialogue in that movie has a life of its own.

Well there were three (3) bottles of red wine provided for the two of them. I’ve heard Pauline isn’t a big drinker, so 2.5 bottles went down Barnaby’s neck is my guess.

It was released in Australia as a movie - my friend’s deeply irresponsible older sister took us to see it when we were 9 years old. Absolutely totally scarred me forever. Even now seeing those pictures gave me a jolt. They guy getting impaled on trophy antlers is an image that lives forever…
