If you saw Friday night's UCLA-Arizona men's basketball game, either in person or via Peacock ... didn't it make you miss the old Pac-12 even a little bit?

Regional rivalries have been diminished in college sports' new configuration. But they're not dead yet.

Friday night’s matchup between the former Pac-12 powerhouses at Intuit Dome reminds us again what fans, players, coaches and the sport are missing.

Not only is greater L.A. savoring the Dodgers’ recent championship moment, but this region is enjoying a run of titles that could be unprecedented in SoCal sports history.

So, who’s next?

Alexander: Which sports team will be Southern California’s next champion?
With the Dodgers’ latest World Series triumph, no region has dominated the 2020s like ours with seven major pro sports titles in six years – so who’s next?

With four MVP awards in five seasons, each time sweeping all 30 first-place votes … that sounds like a consensus opinion: Shohei Ohtani as not only the best player on the planet, not only one of one, but quite possibly the type of player we’ll never see again.

Alexander: 4 MVPs for Shohei Ohtani, 4 unanimous votes
Honored again after another dynamic offensive season that included a successful return to the mound, the Dodgers star further cements his legacy as the consensus best player on the planet.

Pittsburgh’s Paul Skenes was the unanimous NL Cy Young Award winner, as he should have been. It may well be the first of many.

So how long before he winds up someplace where ownership isn’t content to just field a team but actually, you know, tries to win?

Yes, it’s hard to say with authority, one day after, that a World Series is the best ever.

But you certainly can make that case about this one.

A Dodger dynasty? Three titles in six years, five World Series in a decade … why not?

Alexander: A Dodgers dynasty? It’s hard to argue otherwise
They successfully defended their championship with some late-inning lightning, and with three titles in six seasons, who’s to argue?

A crazy and sudden ending to Game 6 means that this World Series will have a Game 7.

Regardless of your loyalties, this is a fitting way to end what has turned into a true Fall Classic.

www.ocregister.com/2025/10/31/a...
Alexander: Yes, Dodger fans, there will be 1 more World Series game
A massive defensive play by Kiké Hernández assures them of a Game 7 in Toronto, and a chance to play for a second straight Commissioner’s Trophy.

No more margin for error. And - as well (and as intelligently) as the Blue Jays have played, the Dodgers have put themselves in this spot.

Alexander: Dodgers have reached the edge of the cliff

This is the worst part of having a shaky or at least inconsistent bullpen: It can let you down at the worst possible times.

Can the Dodgers hang on for two more victories?

www.ocregister.com/2025/10/28/a...
Alexander: Is this familiar? Dodgers’ bullpen lets them down
Anthony Banda and Blake Treinen couldn’t contain the Blue Jays in the seventh inning of Game 4, so this World Series is even with a return trip to Canada for at least one game now a certainty.

Are there Dodger fans who still have a grudge against Max Scherzer?

Here’s why they shouldn’t.

www.ocregister.com/2025/10/26/a...
Alexander: Max Scherzer is the World Series opponent, not the villain
The Blue Jays’ Game 3 starter shouldn’t hear it from the fans about the 2021 postseason, because the Dodgers overused him.

Is Yoshinobu Yamamoto a throwback? He’s certainly seemed like it lately.

For the Dodgers, there are four victories to go. Four victories to meet the team's internal expectations - and, by the way, to put themselves in the history books as the first World Series repeat champion in a quarter century.
