Utter baloney. Thiessen's view is without information content. But, as far back as December 1979, Scientific American was describing energy storage methods including pumped hydro, batteries, and subterranean compressed air -- together adequate to make a completely renewable energy economy possible.

This is a superb article: information-rich, appropriate in tone, and just the right length. It is impossible to state too many times just how terrible RFK Jr. is and will be for Americans' health. I think I'll subscribe to Mother Jones on the strength of this alone.

When an extremely robust study, like one spanning decades of data and over a million kids, robustly fails to demonstrate something you believe in, the response should be to thoughtfully interrogate your beliefs. You can avoid a lot of embarrassment that way and it's the honest thing to do.

The judgment and order against NIH were already in place. In explaining them, the Findings of Fact statement here is truly a peach. I particularly liked:
"Dr. Memoli tripled down on the DEI mystery, and added -- in a truly hold-my-beer-and-watch-this moment -- 'gender identity' to the mix."

A cute couple, and a great shot!
On looking around, I see many superb bird pix at gemignanimary on Instagram. Thanks!

Yes; Let's help Senator Collins do the right thing and step down from the Senate as partial atonement for the RFK Jr disaster. While we're at it, Bill Cassidy's shame has one remedy.

RFK Jr. has made Senator Cassidy look like a fool.
The Senator has abandoned science and betrayed his constituents. Let's replace him.

CO-04 is the reddest District in Colorado, and one of the reddest in the country. And I STILL think Democrats have a strong shot at taking it way from Boebert, who everyone sees as a wretched embarrassment.

Guess who has to defend his Senate seat with this record.
It's a beautiful opportunity for NC next year!

AZ-6 appears to be quite winnable for Democrats, with Ciscomani edging Engel by 50% to 47.5% in 2024. Next year offers a wonderful opportunity.
Also watch competitive VA-02, where Republican Jen Kiggans is in big trouble over Medicaid cuts.
More op-eds, please!

H. R. Giger drew the alien in 1976. "Alien" appeared in 1979.
Spooky, eh?

I love this! It's a beautiful and moving picture of physics in action. I trust there is no possibility that these cones are spreading mind-control chemicals, and hope RFK Jr has been so advised.

I checked, and this (amazingly) is not a deep fake. In a discussion of the original remark, one commenter observed that Joni Ernst believes Iowa is so red that she can get away with failing to take her constituents seriously, so long as she is seen as MAGA enough. Iowa - test that theory in 2026!

Siddhartha Mukherjee's book "The Gene" describes how Stalinist dogma focused on the malleability of human and biological traits through environmental influence, while Nazi "science" stressed immutability and hierarchical superiority of genetic traits, especially "Aryan" superiority. Mirror images!

Indeed. Perhaps more to the point, no "cooking classes" are going to do a lick for someone with Type I diabetes. It is shockingly ignorant to say derisively that the only effective treatment is "throwing insulin". And Type II? Lead off by dismissing anti-obesity drugs and you lose all credibility.

Humanity thanks you. And a big tip of the hat to Elevated Third for a website that both is beautiful and functions beautifully.

OK; since you asked for it, let me suggest that it would have been accurate and exquisitely perfect, for our new Pontiff to be “Pope Bob I”.
