September is blood cancer awareness month! #kNOwMyeloma

Started my 3rd line of treatment in my 8 year multiple myeloma journey yesterday. None of these options would be available without all the basic science studies to understand cellular mechanisms. I’m fortunate that so many new #myeloma drugs have been approved in the last 10 years as a result.

Back in the infusion center starting my third line that includes a monoclonal antibody that stimulates my body’s natural killer cells to keep my #myeloma under control. Thank goodness for the downstream fruits of basic science research or I wouldn’t have this option! #mmsm Science saves lives! 💜🧫🧪🐁♥️

Targeted therapies and immunotherapies have helped control my #myeloma and keep it at bay. Though the path forward is unclear, we must continue to press on and advocate for basic science research so patients with #cancer and #neurodegeneration and many other diseases can have #hope and healing.

It’s been a hard week for science, but I am so grateful that I was able to take long walks in nature to center myself. When I was diagnosed with #myeloma in 2017, I could barely walk a few steps with the help of a walker. Today, thanks to basic science research, I have the gift of more time.

It’s #MyelomaActionMonth! My #MyelomaMilestone is that I started leading a support group for #myeloma patients and their care partners at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. When ground-breaking research is combined with education, the result is HOPE! Basic science saves lives! 💜😊 #Grateful 🩷💚

This is me today! Back to back Zoom meetings scheduled all day, and Miss Lili says I really need to rest. #myeloma

Miss Lilypad on my lap at the end of a long day worrying about the cancellation of NH study section review sessions, brings much needed comfort! I’m alive because basic science led to new therapies for #myeloma, and we can’t afford a delay in the scientific enterprise in this country. #mmsm
