Overheard at the Mod:
"Don't touch that! It's art, it's thousands of pounds that mummy and daddy can't pay"
"How is it art? It's just a lump of metal!"

A4: An example from our induction Learning to Learn lecture at the RDSVS

I'm pretty pleased with this one! Highlighting culture and higher education politics #LTHEchat

I am however better able to find moments of joy even with all these big overwhelming thoughts. I know that part of this anxiety comes from tiredness. I think it's important to talk about the stalking guilt of parenthood, the feeling of never being good enough, so we can rework our idea of parenting

I was in the first 10% of Bluesky users apparently. #705,340!

For some spoilers, spending quality time with my daughter was the most common way I felt like a good parent in 2023. Self-regulating myself comes in fourth, thought you might argue it should be higher 😅

I had never heard of Aleen Cust before, the UKs first female vet, who apparently did her farm rounds on a white Arabian stallion 🤣

Excited to be part of International Day of Women in Science - particularly getting this background from the lovely Andrew Gardner ❤️ #philsci #vetsci

"The campus is the heart of the university", the university says.

The campus in question.

I have a lot of questions about this Petplan "what breed is right for you" quiz which thinks the best and indeed only breed for me is a Cockapoo. I'm actually more positive about these designer crossbreeds than a lot of people in the vet field, but this is definitely A Choice.

If you want to know the energy in my house right now - I dropped a mince pie and the toddler is eating it off the floor to circumvent the "no snacks in the ten minutes before tea" rule #JoinIn #NotNecessarilyOnTheFloor

You can pin the #JoinIn feed so you can get access to it quickly. You'll find such joys as my incredibly rustic mince pies (toddler assisted 😅)

I think this is a really key point in Scottish politics. We're not being strategic, and we don't have or communicate ambitious policies #ScotSky

This one is particularly interesting as a researcher who switched fields after my PhD! You can see that I'm only starting to have an impact in education research, but my animal research is more impactful overall! Hopefully in time that will catch up😅

I really like these InfluenceMap visualisations - with the usual caveat that you can cite someone for positive or negative reasons, it seems broadly congruent with my own thoughts about my influences.

I mainly take photos like this now for my own enjoyment. But I very much enjoyed my little shitty camera adventure!

And then when light levels are anything less than gorgeous sun, the Nippon and expired film badly struggled. This test of the flash has subsequently been a fun folding toy for the toddler. Somehow it makes it even more delightful

On the other side of the bridge, the Nippon saw this - feels like it could have been taken thirty years ago
December 4, 2023 at 7:33 PM
By contrast, my canon saw from a different angle ...

My first contribution to #ShittyCameraChallenge @shittychallenge.bsky.social is therefore this shot of the Bo'Ness and Kinneil Railway. This was a gloriously bright day which I think greatly helps the Nippon!
December 4, 2023 at 7:07 PM
Anyway, I saw the #ShittyCameraChallenge chat and I thought "I've got a camera for this!" My husband had been given a 'Nippon' point and shoot a few years ago as a gag gift. This thing has a very funny history: www.lomography.com/magazine/247...

I'm delighted with this initiative from #WestLothianCouncil - free reusable period products to trial them! There was a big set of orders waiting in the library. Good on them. #EndPeriodPoverty #Sustainability

Went walking with sharks at Scotland's Deep Sea World and it was a blast. Despite not having dived for ten years I think I did well

We had a very good time at the Smith Gallery in Stirling. This Tunnocks Tiger by the March Brothers was a highlight. Our toddler was very respectful of the sign as she eagerly pointed out it's tail and eyes 🤣

I only managed to internally debate the ethics of AI art for 30s before I caved. What AI thinks I look like based on my Bluesky profile . . .

I had fun today #ShittyCameraChallenge
