Knee replacement recovery report, day 13. Still stiff and uncomfortable, but by doing my physical therapy exercises I can bend my knee further. I sill sleep in a recliner with my legs tilted up and two stuffed animals to comfort me! Wonderful Ben sets me up with the icing machine as needed.

January flowers. Not in my yard but I wish they were.

I’m now one week out from knee replacement surgery. The leg is more swollen than painful. I’m gradually transitioning from the walker to a cane.

To help get my mind off my healing knee I’ve been enjoying Bad Sisters on Netflix along with bouquets of flowers from Ben and my sister.

I had my knee replacement surgery seven days ago. Not painful but the swelling bothers me. I’m still on a walker. To reduce swelling I’ve got an icing machine, meds, and a leg squeezer pump and I elevate the leg when I sit in my recliner.

I will not be watching the inauguration. Any suggestions for films I can watch instead that don’t remotely suggest Trump, MAGA, or Republican values?

Home from knee replacement surgery. PT, pain meds, compression devices shown here, and a good attitude will see me through. It will take about six months to get back to all my activities.

Knee replacement surgery #2 tomorrow at Stanford El
Camino hospital in Los Gatos. I still have most of my recovery equipment from knee replacement #1 seven years ago. It will take about six weeks to be out and about again. I’m looking forward to walking with pain free stability.

The Taliban must be very afraid of women and of their ability to show sexual restraint against women. These men are the poorer for cutting themselves off from women's personhood. www.nbcnews.com/news/world/t...
Taliban do not see women as human beings, Malala Yousafzai says
No foreign government has recognized the Taliban due to its restrictive stance on women, while the U.N. has said its policies amount to “gender apartheid.”

Part 2 of the Guardian article on Trump - Bill and Ted were spot on when they said the key was simply to “be excellent to one another.”

If the rest of us can make the world a kinder place in this year of the snake, perhaps even a reptile like Trump can be charmed into doing the right thing.

Part 1 From an article in the Guardian about surviving T-boy’s presidency: “Try to be everything Trump is not: compassionate, honest, calm, and decent. Don’t make hasty pronouncements, encourage others, seek unity, and heal division.”

To San Jose and Santa Clara friends who grew up up in the 50’s and 60’s, who remembers BiWise Market and the Merry Mart at Bascom and Newhall? I’m remembering buying comic books (Caspar the Ghost and Wendy the Witch!) at BiWise and petticoats at the Merry Mart.

I’m about to start reading Have You Seen Luis Velez? by Catherine Ryan Hyde. Have you read it? The description is “brings heartwarming authenticity to the story of two strangers who find that kindness is a powerful antidote to fear.” What are your favorite works of fiction?
